Golcar Providence Playgroup follow the National Guidelines set out by the
DFEE on the Curriculum Guidance for the Foundation Stage. With the help of
the Curriculum Guidance document we are able to plan and help all children
achieve the Early Learning Goals.
To ensure the children at playgroup are making good progress towards
the Early Learning Goals it is essential that the group delivers a broad,
balanced and purposeful curriculum meeting the needs of all children.
The first step in achieving this is by the playgroup preparing and displaying
several long term aims at activities and areas within the group. These
long term aims provide an overview of the range of learning opportunities
offered and are reviewed annually.
Planning meetings are held monthly and and attended by all staff/keyworkers.
The group operates a keyworker system which involves a staff member being
responsible for a particular group of children. A keyworker carries out
detailed observations on each child which in turn allows them to plan on a more
individual basis. These regular meetings allow staff to develop medium and
short term plans, discuss any issues arising and ensure all areas of learning
are being adequately met.
The medium plan will generally cover a period of 6-8 weeks (a ½ term period)
and will be based of a particular theme in respect to the six areas of
development. This plan is used as a guide and not followed rigidly.
The short term plan is drawn up on a weekly basis and refers to the area of
learning fro each activity as well as staff deployment.
A daily diary is also completed at the planning meeting to record into the
curriculum details such as milk time foods, session end activities and also
visitors to the group.
A weekly floor plan also shows the layout of the playgroup room and the
rotation of activities and equipment.
The playgroup follows the ethos of the Pre-School Learning Alliance that is
learning through play. Children are free to move from one activity to
another as they wish.
